How to Raise Your Energy Level by Napoleon Hill

How to Raise Your Energy Level
by Napoleon Hill

How is your energy level today? Did you wake up eager to face the tasks ahead? Did you push your chair back from the breakfast table with the feeling that you were rarin’ to go? And did you plunge into your work with enthusiasm?

You didn’t? Perhaps for some time now you just haven’t had the vim and vigor you think you should have. Perhaps you feel tired before the day begins, and drag through your work without joy.

If so, let’s do something about it!

Vernon Wolfe, track coach, is an expert who can show us what to do. He is one of the outstanding coaches in the country, under his tutelage, several high school students have broken national prep school records.

How does he train these stars? Wolfe has a double prescription. He teaches them to condition both their minds and their bodies simultaneously.

“If you believe you can do it,” says Vernon Wolfe, “most of the time you can. It’s mind over matter.”

You have two types of energy. One is physical, the other is mental and spiritual. The latter is by far the more important, for from your subconscious mind you can draw vast power and strength in time of need.

Think for example, of the great feats of strength and endurance you’ve read about people performing while under the stress of intense emotion. There is an automobile accident and a husband is pinned under the overturned car. In her moment of fear and determination, his tiny and frail wife manages to raise the car enough to free him! Or the insane person, his mind dominated by his subconscious running wild, can break, lift, bend, and smash with a force he never could hope for during periods of normality.

In a series of articles for Sports Illustrated, Dr. Roger Bannister told how he first broke the four-minute mile on May 6, 1954, by training both his mind and his muscles to accomplish this long-sought dream of the athletic world. For months, he conditioned his subconscious into the belief that the record could be achieved. Others thought of the four-minute mark as a barrier. Bannister thought of it as a gateway which, if he once passed through, would open the way to many new records for himself and other milers.

And of course, he was right. Roger Bannister led the way. In a period of little more than four years after he first set a four-minute mile, the feat was performed 46 times by himself and other runners! And in one race, at Dublin, Ireland, on August 6, 1958, five runners ran the mile in less than four minutes!

The man who taught Roger Bannister the secret was Dr. Thomas Kirk Cureton, director of the physical fitness laboratory at the University of Illinois. Dr. Cureton has developed revolutionary ideas concerning the body’s energy level. They apply, he says, to both athletes and non-athletes. They can make a runner run faster and the average man live longer.

“There is no reason why,” Dr. Cureton says, “any man can’t be as fit at 50 as he was at 20 – providing he know how to train his body.”

Dr. Cureton’s system is based on two principles: (1) Train the whole body. (2) Push yourself to the limit of endurance, extending the limit with each workout.

“The art of record-breaking,” he says, “is the ability to take more out of yourself than you’ve got. You punish yourself more and more and rest between spells.”

Dr. Cureton became acquainted with Rogers Bannister while running physical fitness tests on European athlete stars. He noticed that Bannister’s body was wonderfully developed in some ways. For example, his heart was 25 percent larger than normal in relation to his body size. But, in other ways, Bannister wasn’t as well developed as the average man. Bannister took Cureton’s advice to develop his whole body. He learned to condition his mind by taking up mountain climbing. This taught him how to overcome obstacles.

Equally important, he learned to break big goals down into little ones. Roger Bannister reasoned that a man ran a single quarter-mile faster than he ran the four quarters of a full mile. So he trained himself to think of the four quarters in the mile separately. In his training, he would dash a quarter-mile, then jog a lap around the track to rest. Then he would dash another quarter mile. Each time, he aimed to runt the quarter in 58 seconds or less. Fifty-eight times four equals 232 seconds, or three minutes and 52 seconds. He ran to the point of collapse. Then he would rest. Each time, the point of collapse was pushed back a little. When he finally ran his great race, it was in three minutes. 59.6 seconds!

Dr. Cureton taught Roger Bannister that “the more the body endures, the more it will endure.” Beliefs about “overtraining” and “staleness,” he says, are myths.

But he emphasizes that rest is as important as exercise and activity. The body needs to rebuild in even larger quantities what has been torn down in exercise. That’s how strength, vitality, energy are developed. The body and mind both recharge themselves during periods of rest and relaxation. If you don’t give them a chance to do so, severe damage – and even death – can result.

Shine on you crazy diamond

"There has always been an odd streak in the Stoics. Zeno used to practice begging people for money, even though he had plenty. Cleanthes worked as a manual laborer for so long, some in Athens thought it might be a front for something. Cato used to walk around bareheaded and barefooted, wearing dingy clothing. Seneca was completely unafraid both of regularly practicing poverty (despite his wealth) and unafraid of showing his wealth (despite his reputation as a Stoic). He also experimented with vegetarianism at a time when it was deeply transgressive in Rome. And can you imagine the scene Marcus Aurelius created when he would write and read philosophy while the gladiatorial games raged on beneath his box seats in the coliseum?

The Stoics were not afraid to be themselves, to be seen as weird. In fact, that’s something Epictetus said: If you want to improve, if you want to achieve wisdom, you have to be okay looking strange or even clueless from time to time. Epictetus also tells us the story of Agrippinus, who refused to keep a low profile during Nero’s reign, who refused to conform or tamp down his independent thinking. Why do this, Agrippinus was asked, why not be like the rest of us?

Because you consider yourself to be only one thread of those which are in the tunic. Well then it was fitting for you to take care how you should be like the rest of men, just as the thread has no design to be anything superior to the other threads. But I wish to be purple, that small part which is bright, and makes all the rest appear graceful and beautiful. Why then do you tell me to make myself like the many? And if I do, how shall I still be purple?

Beautifully said. And a reminder to all of us today. Embrace who you really are, embrace what makes you unique. Let your freak flag fly—because chances are it’s special. Shine on you crazy diamond. Be purple. Be the small part that makes the rest bright.

We desperately need you to do that." From the dailystoic

I heard this the other day I thought it was funny.

An old lady is carrying her pet ferret in her hand. the ferret wasn't moving. She went to the vet. Doctor please check my ferret he is not moving. The vet looked at the ferret and asked the old lady to put the ferret on the examination table. Very gently she put the ferret on the examinantion table it still did not move. The vet had his sthyiscope to check for heartbeat. There is none. The vet looked at the old lady and said I am sorry your ferret is dead. The old lady cried and wept Dr. Please I would like another opinion. The vet says sure, whistles and a Labrador Retriever comes in. The Labrador jumps up on the examination table and nudges the ferret with her nose. No movement. The vet asks the Labrador is the ferret alive. The dog barks one time meaning no not alive. The old lady is wringing her hands and crying rivers Dr. just one more opinion please. The vet scratched his head and said ok. He goes in the back where the animals are kept and selects a cat. Puts the cat on the examination table. The cat nudges the ferret and the ferret doesn't move. The cat meowed once meaning the ferret is not alive. The old lady is heartbroken, the vet writes up the bill and hands it to the old lady. The old lady gets extremely angry. what do you mean I owe you $500.00 this is absurd. The vet looked at the old lady and explained the bill. $25.00 for my examination, $175.00 for the lab work and $300.00 for the catscan . that is a total of $500.00. Well I never and the old lady paid the vet and stormed out of the vet clinic. And the crowd roars.

Why???

3 am The witches hour. Why do I always wake up at a little before 3 am and then lose time for 20-30 mins? I will tell you why. I am contacted by things in a lucid dream who talk with me to see if everything is ok and on the up and up. Fore they have something in mind for the rest of us. I know what it is but I can't say. Been sworn to secrecy So I am sitting here in the cottage sipping on cold black coffee, listening to the waves wash up on the rocks in the dark, tapping away on a key board thinking is any of it really real or am I absolutely insane like others in my tribe. Oh, now I remember my purpose of this entry ya. Do you belong to a tribe. Belong or not Belong is not the issue. This issue is where do you find yourself right now. That is your tribe. The question is are you happy with it. If you are.
, no problemo on the dark side if you're not time to look at your self and ask yourself questions until you find the answers. I like to journal these universal questions get the thoughts outside of me on something tangible like paper or a computer journal. No matter what you use. It is a process. What do you do next is figure out your why. The question is what is my why. Funny thing nothing ever gets done without a why. You need to be clear on your why. An example: why am I here in my cottage in my kitchen staring into blackness of the ocean washing up on the rocks 100ft away tapping this out while sipping on a cold cuppa joe. No explanations. A very simple answer: i live a lifetime in a day. There you have it next post I will talk about purpose. Thank you for joining my on the witching hour, friends. -From the Forgotten Coast by the Forgotten

Holes in the Heart

Talked to my younger brother he just lost his his right thumb above the lower knuckle from a chain snap while taking down a tree for firewood. Northern New Hampshire -very country. With or without his thumb the family loves him. Ever had part of your heart suddenly go dark. That is the feeling. Has nothing to do with Kobe though he will be greatly missed. This is something else. This morning looking out my cottage kitchen window over the ocean frothing from a far storm. The wind singing the siren song so inviting. Tears start to fall from my eyes. My heart has a sinking dropping feeling and I choke back a sob, dropping the cuppa joe on the black slate floor. I stand here head bowed weeping. You see I am not very good at esoteric dimensions, dreamed from a hooka. I am here for the real stuff. I have a mission its go time. That sort of thing. I think it is more of put the wolf back in the box and break it the next time he is needed. Meanwhile keep him really busy. Ever get that feeling. It's time to nod your head. Now for some traveling music to going traveling on . One of my goals this summer is to walk the lay lines in northwest betcha I find some interesting stuff betcha i might not make it back betcha betcha. And you are invited to join me.

This morning I was standing next to the window look out. Cuppa Joe in my hand watching the wind push the grass around. What did I see looking back at me. The most gorgeous woman in the world wrapped in a crimson cloak appearing out of nothing but walking toward me as if she meant it. Her eyes connected with mine very dark eyes, crimson lips, ember black hair, long long hair down her back. The hunger and lust in her eyes. froze me. There is no way out of this one She walked across the slate of the porch right up to me. Her breasts flat against my chest She spoke I went into a dream.

Wind oh lovely wind pushes the grass around giant branches in the hedge bounce around. The sky turned grey. The soft winds coming in from the west. The air has become warm from the energy about to hit my cottage on the bluff overlooking the ocean. I open the patio door I open the windows on the western side. Big heavy doors and windows Fresh energy enters the cottage.

I just sitting here thinking about my day. It started at 0530. I have a morning practice that gets me going. What wakes me up is a long drink of cold water. Make the coffee. Do my 2 min writing project, which is really interesting because the focus is intense for 2 minutes. Then it goes into the journal. After looking around on the site. One or two are up. I then do 330 modified burpees for a charity I work with called burpees for vets, courage foundation. I ramble around the house. I am a bachelor at the moment I stayed behind to take care of the running the property don't really like doing it. That is neither here or there. Then I go for a ruck which means I carry weight in a backpack. This morning it was off to the grocery store for fresh salad and Shepard pie for Sunday dinner. Along with milk and oatmeal for when I am not up to cooking. Something funny happened to me, may have been lack of water. I just felt off. I listen to what is going on suddenly I felt a weight and going from happy to yuck. I am thinking I should shorten the walk in order to make it home Roundtrip was 5 miles. I do this daily. Once home lunch and the football game, wondering why I am carrying on a conversation with an invisible wolf. Only one answer to it. I have gone over the hills and far away. Well, that is how it was Jan 10th, 2020 hope this stirs the pot.

This comes under the tag #livelifereal in honor of my nephew Joshua who was taken by a heroin overdose His remains are in the woods of Wendell Ma. If you don't know about Wendell, Ma wel... you don't livelifereal. This story is dedicated to Josh much loved by his family and his tribe You are missed.

You may think that is a wierd title to this. I agree with you my cherished reader. All will be revealed enough of the pleasantries heres an ouzo down it and have another.

Ive never told anyone this. This is one of the times I was shot and killed. We were tied up to the pier of a south Indian ocean island for rest recovery replenishment of ships stores and liberty. Haze grey and underway dude. liberty is a right of passage for all sailors. It is when they roam around the dock, drinkin, fighting, and a little bit of tickle and slap on the butt. This is the nature of the white cap. I was a black shoe mustanged it from enlisted to officer. Something that is rarely accomplished. Plus i didnot drink
not because i didn't like it, because I liked it to much. Can you guess my name. I am a cheeky bastard so bear with me. The pilots of the replenish ment helo had the right idea they went to beach resort Sandalls I believe it was called Lots of naked european women which was the main mission for them for the day. I wanted to do some exploring adventuring plundering in true pirate style. So like a dumbass i walked out of the safety of the town across the plains to the mountains. I wanted to climb to the top of one. I followed the path up children pointing me out "Mom there is a white man on the road outside the door" big news in this valley. But it was my undoing. Top of the mountain. The view is fantastic. I heard a noise in the bush out jumped were the tiniest deer i have ever seen no bigger than a medium size dog. They saw me and scattered.

Well down the road we go on the other side of mountain. That looked like it will take me back to the town and the ship. From this hieght I saw the cane field and watched what was going on. What looked ammo boxeswere being moved inside canvas tents. Down I walked to a very old path well worn and cobble stoned The trees old arched over the path like an archway to a portal. On I walked through the tropical heat wishing I had brought water Sweat just covering my shirt back and legs. Stop!
I heard but didn't believe. i moved forward. Stop this time the old watchman step from the shadows into the middle of the cobbled path. He had his 22 rifle pointed at me. Go back-- I just want to pass through no harm --- go back or I'll shot--no warning except that he shot me I died and no one ever found me. The end my friend Have another ouzo.
